Editor – Full Time Maternity Cover

Summersdale Publishers Ltd requires a highly efficient, meticulous, organised and flexible individual with creative flair and 3 years’ publishing experience to cover one of our Editor’s maternity leave, commencing May 2012.

Key responsibilities include: Structural editing, copy-editing, proof-checking, copy-writing, project editing, including liaison with authors/illustrators/freelancers, managing projects to ensure books are ready to go the printer on time, contribution to development of new book ideas.

The successful candidate will have 3 years’ experience, meticulous and zealous attention to detail, an aptitude for efficiency and organization, creative flair and eye for design,  good time management and an ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines, flexibility and an ability to prioritise, excellent communication and people skills, and an enthusiasm for publishing popular books.  A good working knowledge of Microsoft Office is essential.

Based in the centre of Chichester, Summersdale is a dynamic and growing company listed as one of the UK's top independent non-fiction publishers.  Our publications span humour, gift, travel writing, self-help and general interest genres.  We pride ourselves on our high standards of editing, design and production in all of our products, whether traditional books, eBooks or audiobooks.

Editorial Assistant – Full-time, permanent

Summersdale Publishers Ltd requires a highly efficient, meticulous, organised and flexible individual with creative flair to assist their Editorial Team. 

Key responsibilities include: assessing submissions, sending rejection letters, contributing to the development of new book ideas, conducting competition research for new books, collecting quotes and material for in-house books, finding and scanning in pictures for illustrations, providing some administrational support, as well as copy-writing, copy-editing, proof-checking and project editing.

The successful candidate will be educated to degree level and, ideally, have some publishing experience.  We are looking for an individual with meticulous and zealous attention to detail, an aptitude for efficiency and organization, creative flair and eye for design, good time management and an ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines, flexibility and an ability to prioritise, excellent communication and people skills, and an enthusiasm for publishing popular books.  A good working knowledge of Microsoft Office is essential.
